The emperor is wearing the Legion of Honour medal. The copper plate of the portrait is in a bronze frame surmounted by allegorical elements (torches, laurel wreath), the back covered with fabric embroidered with gold thread is held to the frame by 4 tabs.

This small painting is in very good general condition. Only the varnish layer is gone in several places (see photo 9)
